Frequently asked questions
Honest answers, no fine print.
Everything you might want to know about how Homative works, what it costs, and how your information is handled.
Getting started
What is Homative?
Homative is a national matching service that connects homeowners with up to three pre-screened local contractors across roofing, windows, siding, HVAC, and gutters. We don't do the work ourselves — we match you with the local pros who do, so you can compare real quotes.
How does matching work?
You tell us about your project and zip code. We match you with up to three contractors from our network who serve your area and handle your type of work. Before any pro reaches you, we check for active licensing, valid insurance, and a verifiable review history. The matched pros then reach out with quotes.
How long does the form take?
About two minutes. We ask for your service, zip code, and contact details — enough to match you with the right local pros.
What happens after I submit my project?
Your details are routed to the up-to-three matched local pros for your project and zip code. Most homeowners hear from at least one pro within a few hours, and from all three within a day or two. You then compare quotes and decide — there's no obligation to hire.
Cost and obligation
Is Homative really free?
Yes. Homative is free for homeowners — there's no fee to submit a project, get matched, or compare quotes. Contractors in our network pay us when they receive a qualified match, which is how the service stays free for you.
Am I obligated to hire anyone?
No. You can accept one quote, none of them, or ask for different pros. There's no obligation to hire and no fee for homeowners at any step.
How much will my project cost?
That depends on the work, your home, and where you live. The point of getting up to three quotes is to see real local pricing instead of guessing. Our cost guides also publish current dollar ranges by project type, with cited sources, so you have a benchmark before you talk to anyone.
Do contractors compete on price?
Up to three pros send you written quotes for the same project, so you can compare price, scope, and timing side by side. That comparison is the value — it's much harder to judge a single quote in isolation.
The contractor network
How are contractors pre-screened?
Before a contractor is matched to you, we verify active state licensing, current liability insurance, a verifiable review history, and that they genuinely serve your zip code. We re-check licensing and insurance over time and remove contractors who fall out of compliance or draw repeated valid complaints.
Does pre-screening guarantee the work?
No. Pre-screening reduces risk by confirming licensing, insurance, and track record, but the contract for the work is between you and the contractor. Always review the written quote and confirm details before you hire.
How many contractors will contact me?
Up to three. We share your details only with the matched pros for your project and zip code — we don't sell your information to a wider list of buyers.
What if I don't like the matches?
There's no obligation. You can decline all quotes, request different pros, or stop the conversation entirely. You can also let us know if a matched contractor falls short, and we use that feedback in our ongoing review.
Privacy and consent
How is my information used?
We use your details to match you with up to three pre-screened local pros for your project and zip code, and to route your information to them so they can prepare a quote and reach out. We share it only with those matched pros and the partner networks that connect us to them — not an open list of buyers. Full detail is in our Privacy policy.
Why do you ask for consent to be contacted?
When you submit the form, you agree to be contacted by Homative and the matched contractors about your project — including by phone, text, autodialer, or pre-recorded message — at the number and email you provide. This consent is what lets the matched pros reach out. It is not a condition of any purchase, and message and data rates may apply. The full consent language appears in plain sight at the form, never buried.
Can I stop being contacted?
Yes. You can opt out of further contact at any time, and you're never obligated to respond or hire. See our Privacy policy for how to manage your information, and our Do Not Sell page if you're a California resident.
Do you sell my information?
We share your project details with the up-to-three matched pros and the partner networks that connect us to them so they can quote your job. We don't sell your information to an open list of unrelated buyers. California residents can review and exercise their rights on our Do Not Sell My Info page.
